Young Adults Overwhelmingly Turn to Mom (Not Dad) for Support, Advice, and Everyday Help

Three-quarters (75%) of Gen Z and young Millennials rely on mom for emotional support, while just 14% say the same about dad.

Mom Is the Go-To for Life’s Everyday Questions

A new survey reveals that Gen Z and young Millennials (ages 18–34) overwhelmingly turn to their mothers for help, advice, and support, far more often than they do to their fathers. About four in five (81%) say they reach out to mom daily or several times a week. Whether it’s a quick question or a call for emotional reassurance, moms are the preferred source of wisdom.

From Cooking Tips to Health Concerns, Mom Leads the Way

When faced with everyday dilemmas, young adults look to mom first. Nearly three-quarters (74%) say they go to mom for medical questions, while just 14% would ask dad. Similarly, three-quarters (77%) turn to mom for cooking advice, compared to only 15% who consult dad. Even when it comes to locating lost items, mom gets the call, two-thirds (68%) say they’ve asked mom to help them find something they misplaced, while just one in five (21%) say they’d call dad.

Emotional Support? It’s All About Mom

Perhaps the most striking contrast comes in the realm of emotional support. Three-quarters (75%) of respondents rely on mom when they’re feeling down, while a mere 14% say they go to dad. The results paint a clear picture: when young adults need someone they can count on, mom is still the MVP.
